As of today I don’t have a really clear idea of what my self-employment will look like. I know I want to go from being unemployed to self-employed, but what will the reality of that situation be?
I’m used to going into an office, sitting in meetings, and taking direction from someone else. This is what I can envision but this isn’t what self-employment will be at all!
The Self-Employment Online Income Plan
As of now I plan to build my self-employment income via several different methods so that I will never be fully reliant on one income. Relying fully on one income stream, whether it is a job or a single side income stream, feels much too risky to me now.
The skills and methods I will use to become fully self-employed (subject to change at any time) include:
- affiliate marketing
- freelance writing
- blog design
- logo design
- blog & content writing for hire
- SEO for hire
- commenting for hire
- editing for hire
These are actually all things I’ve done in the past either for myself or for an employer even if they aren’t currently represented here on this blog (*cough* logo and blog design *cough*). Might as well use skills I already have, right?
Clearly some of these are completely different than others and will require more or less work. In the next few weeks I will be working on fine-tuning my plan and getting it ready for implementation. Luckily I was given a bit of severance from my last employer when laid off so I have a few weeks to get my act in gear and get things rolling.
The Self-Employment Online Income Inspiration
Employing myself mostly via making an income online is something that I never thought I could do up until a few years ago. Since then I’ve discovered lots of other people doing this same thing online and have been inspired by their success.
Here are a few of my online self-employed heroes:
Smart Passive Income, Pat Flynn – The champion of them all in my opinion. He makes a ton of money every month and he teaches other people like me how to do it too (hopefully). He seems like a really nice, stand up kinda guy and I love the transparency he has in his online business.
Dollars and Roses, Jeff and Mandy Rose – These two are inspiring because they work on their online business together. They’ve done some amazing things in the time they’ve been building their business and I enjoy the way they share their successes openly.
Nerdy Nomad, Kristi – Kristi has a different style and a very different lifestyle. She lives a nomadic life that allows her to do a lot of good in the world while traveling at the same time. It’s amazing that her work online has allowed her to live that kind of lifestyle – it definitely inspires me.
Those are just a few of the bloggers who have gone from newbies to employing themselves online. If they can do it, I can do it. Right?
With the education that is out there and a lot of hard work it seems entirely possible to make a go at this self-employment thing online. Thank you for the continued support as I make this become a reality!
