Favorite Reads This Week

by Fig on April 11, 2010

I’ve been reading a TON of personal finance blogs this week. I had no idea there were so many! Or so much to learn! I’ve got a lot of learning to do if I’m ever going to figure money out and actually be financially independent. *sigh* Sometimes it feels like such a long journey, especially because I’m at the beginning. But I’m committed to it.

My favorite reads from the week:

How I Paid Off Over $70,000 In Debt And Quit My Job” by Eventual Millionaire. Shows her journey to becoming debt free and quitting her job. It’s my favorite article this week that I read anywhere. It totally inspired me.

Five tactics to slash debt now from Stumble Forward got me thinking.  Definitely considering things and will write more about this (especially the minimalism) later.

14 reasons you’re living on the edge financially from The Wisdom Journal makes some good points about why people are close to the edge. It made me recognize a lot of things personally.

Have You Ever Felt Poor?” asks A Simple Life in France.  Of course. Most of my life, actually. Currently even.

How To Get Out of Debt: Hardcore Tools for Getting to Zero from Five Cent Nickel.

The Stuff Rich People Throw Away is Often Better Than the Stuff I Keep from The Simple Dollar. I’ve actually been considering dumpster diving after all the blog posts I read about it this week. I don’t think I will go that route because I’m leaning more toward getting rid of things/becoming a minimalist, but it’s an interesting idea.

5 Budget Friendly Tips for Eating Healthy from Not Made of Money. Great tips and super helpful since I want to keep eating healthy even while trying to save and cut costs elsewhere.

Thanks so much for the amazing comments about my post! I was 24 when I started my journey too, and we had a negative net worth too. Ah it’s a fun place to be isn’t it? But don’t worry it gets much better from here!

I am so impressed that you blog for a living. I think the best thing you could have done for your debt was to start this blog! It’s a great way to keep accountable to yourself.

Good luck on your journey, and please email me if you ever need anything!

Thanks Jaime! I’m glad to know it gets better. I’m hoping so! I’d hate to feel like I’m behind forever.

Blogging is fun. It’s something I just kind of fell into. I’m not exactly rich doing it, but I enjoy it! :) I’m definitely hoping blogging here keeps me accountable. That’s definitely what I need.

Thanks for the mention–and for bringing my attention to your blog! I love your byline, “Because there is no personal finance instruction manual.”
